Called to Bless Others

If you live in America, it’s a fact that you have more resources and opportunities than most people in other areas of the world. Even with all of our flaws, in America, we rarely know what true “need” is.

The truth is, many of us are blessed beyond our own comprehension. So, it is important to recognize our blessings, give thanks to God for what we have been blessed with… and then start looking for ways to bless others.

That’s the whole point. Taking what God has blessed us with and blessing others. He gives to us, and then he SENDS us.

Isaiah 6:8 "Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me!"

He sends us. God blesses us not just so we can feel good. God blesses us so we could be a blessing to other people.

God doesn't give us money, talent, abilities, opportunities, networks, none of those things are given to us simply for our benefit. God says, "I want you to be a blessing to other people." Now, we get blessed at the same time. There is no doubt about it. We're going to enjoy the blessing of being a channel. When we're a channel of God's power and blessing to other people, it blesses everybody.

Isaiah was a prophet in the Old Testament, in chapter 61 he writes:

Isaiah 61:1-3 The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, for the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed. He has sent me to tell those who mourn that the time of the Lord’s favor has come, and with it, the day of God’s anger against their enemies. To all who mourn in Israel, he will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair. In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks that the Lord has planted for his own glory.

"I know I am anointed by God." He comes up with a list of five or six different kinds of people in pain. He goes, "I know this is what God is calling me to do, that I'm going to use my anointing not to just make a name for myself. God is giving me this anointing to help five or six kinds of people in pain.”

Jesus, went around doing good. That's the purpose of anointing, to make the world a better place. When we get anointed, we start helping other people. We get blessed by it but we're helping other people. We're anointed. God wants to work in our life this same way, to go around doing good, helping people.

Who is in pain in your life? Who needs you to stand by them, support them and love them? Who can you bless?

That’s what it means to “be the Church” outside the four walls of the church building.
