The Greatest Adventure

What’s the greatest thing you can do with your life? Serve God. We are saved to serve. You might be thinking: How in the world do I do that? How can I serve God? I can’t even see him. How do you serve an invisible God?

Jesus teaches that we serve God by serving others. He said, even if we give a cup of water to somebody who’s thirsty, and we do it in the name of Jesus, that’s as if we did it to him, God. We serve God by serving others.

We were put on this planet to make a difference. God put us here to make a difference with our life and to leave the world a better place.

Romans 6:13 Give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God.

There is nothing more fulfilling that to be used by God to accomplish His greater plan. It's always an adventure, the greatest adventure.

If you’ve ever felt that feeling of being used by God you know this feeling. It gives us significance, and it gives us satisfaction and it gives us fulfillment we will never get from money, power, pleasure or anything else. We were made for more. We were made for significance. That significance comes from serving something greater than ourselves. We were made to live for more than us.

Let me just be blunt. If I claim to be a believer in Jesus Christ, but I have no desire at all to serve Jesus Christ, and I have no desire at all to serve people (to serve God by serving others), then I have every reason to doubt that I’m actually a believer. Because if we are a true believer in Christ, it changes our motivation. It changes our attitude. All of a sudden we don’t want to live for ourselves any more. We want to live for something greater than ourselves.

James 2:14 “What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone?”

Ephesians 2:10 For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

Did you know that before you were born God decided the good things he wanted you to do with your life? That’s your ministry. That’s your service; that’s your good works. God decided that. But you can miss it. Because God’s not going to force you to follow his purpose.

In fact, most people miss God’s purpose for their lives. Most people do. The greatest tragedy in life is not death. The greatest tragedy in life is to miss your purpose. To waste your life and not be the man or woman God intended for you to be. You could make a million bucks and still be a failure at life. Because you missed the idea of serving God by serving others.

Application Questions:

  1. Who can you serve this week? Someone at work? Your spouse? Helping someone move?

  2. How are you partnering with God right now? What is your personal ministry, and how can you join God in his work?
