His Grace Sustains

“My purpose in writing is to encourage you and assure you that what you are experiencing is truly part of God’s grace for you. Stand firm in this grace.” 1 Peter 5:12 (NLT)

There are some things in life that we can’t get through on our own, some pains and some temptations that are just too great without HIS sustaining grace.

What does that mean, “sustaining grace?"

Sustaining grace is the kind of grace that gets you through a situation or a season. It sustains you. It keeps you from falling apart.

This grace is specific. Timely. Personal.

This is the type of grace that the Lord gives you when you get a phone call that changes your life forever. When you don't know what to do next, He is faithful to carry you through that moment.

"The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” (Deuteronomy 31:8)

God’s sustaining grace helps you keep standing when you’re tired.

Life is often exhausting. It requires a lot of energy, especially when you’re trying to do the right thing rather than the easy thing.

We can’t keep doing the right thing out of our own willpower. The Bible compares life to “running a race” for a reason. It’s exhausting.  We need his grace to keep going.

“It is God who enables us, along with you, to stand firm for Christ. He has commissioned us, and he has identified us as his own by placing the Holy Spirit in our hearts” (2 Corinthians 1:21-22 NLT).

Having the Holy Spirit in your heart gives you the energy to do the things you can’t do in your own power.

God’s sustaining grace gives you the power to keep going when you’re troubled.

Some things in life hurt and they are out of our control.

Jesus told us that we can expect to experience hardships and suffering in this life, so we NEED his sustaining grace to get through these valleys.

This means, no matter what, you know God is going to get you through. It could be the loss of a career, but for some reason, you know you're going to be okay. That's his sustaining grace. It could be going through the loss of  a loved one, and you don't know how you will ever get out of bed, but you do, with his help. That's his sustaining grace.

Isaiah 41:10 says, “Don’t worry, because I am with you. Don’t be afraid, because I am your God. I will make you strong and will help you; I will support you with my right hand that saves you” (NCV).

Remember that you’re never alone in life and never without hope. His grace is enough.
