At some point in life, every one of us experiences heartbreak.
Maybe it came through the loss of someone you love. Maybe it was a broken relationship, a painful disappointment, rejection, betrayal. If that's where you are today, I'm so sorry.
I wish I could tell you that one blog post could take away your pain, but it can't. Healing doesn't happen because we read the right words—it happens because we bring our broken hearts to the right Person… Jesus.
The good news is that God specializes in meeting people in their deepest pain. He doesn't ignore your hurt, and He doesn't ask you to pretend everything is okay. He meets you in your grief and begins the work of restoration.
Here are six things God does for those with broken hearts.
1. God Draws Near to You
"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted, and he saves those whose spirits have been crushed." — Psalm 34:18 (NCV)
One of the greatest lies heartbreak tells us is that we're alone.
When we're grieving, God can feel distant. Our prayers seem to bounce off the ceiling, and His presence can feel impossible to find. But our feelings don't always tell us the truth.
God promises that when your heart is breaking, He is closer than ever. He isn't waiting for you to "get over it." He's right there beside you, carrying you through the pain—even when you can't sense His presence.
2. God Grieves With You
"He was despised and rejected—a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief." — Isaiah 53:3 (NLT)
Jesus understands heartbreak because He experienced it Himself.
He knows what it's like to be rejected, abandoned, misunderstood, and betrayed. He wept at the tomb of a friend. He carried unimaginable sorrow to the cross. When you pour out your heart to Him, you're talking to a Savior who truly understands your pain.
He isn't distant or indifferent. He grieves with you.
3. God Gives You People to Walk Beside You
"In Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others... Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn." — Romans 12:5, 15
Heartbreak often makes us want to isolate ourselves. But God never intended for us to suffer alone. He gave us the Church—a family of believers who can pray with us, cry with us, encourage us, and remind us of God's promises when we struggle to remember them ourselves.
Healing often happens in community.
If you're hurting today, don't carry the burden by yourself. Let others help carry it with you.
4. God Uses Your Pain to Grow Your Faith
God never wastes our pain.
While He doesn't cause every hardship we experience, He is able to use every hardship for our good.
The seasons we would never choose often become the seasons where we grow the most. As we learn to depend on God instead of ourselves, He shapes our character, deepens our faith, and makes us more like Christ.
One day, you'll be able to look back and see that even in the darkest valley, God was still at work.
5. God Gives You the Hope of Heaven
"We don't want you to grieve like other people who have no hope." — 1 Thessalonians 4:13 (GW)
As followers of Jesus, we grieve—but we don't grieve without hope. Our pain is real. But death is not the end of the story.
Because Jesus conquered the grave, those who trust in Him have the promise of eternal life. That hope doesn't erase our sorrow, but it gives us strength to endure it.
One day, every tear will be wiped away, every loss will be redeemed, and every broken heart will be completely healed in the presence of God. That gives us hope and peace in the middle of heartbreak.
6. God Can Use Your Pain to Help Others
"[God] comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us." — 2 Corinthians 1:4 (NLT)
One of the beautiful ways God redeems our suffering is by allowing it to become someone else's source of hope. The comfort you've received from God becomes comfort you can offer to someone walking a similar road.
Your story may one day remind another grieving person that they're not alone.
God doesn't want your pain to define you—but He can use it to encourage, strengthen, and point others to Him.
God Is Still Healing Hearts
No blog post can mend a broken heart. Only God can do that. So if your heart feels shattered today, don't run from Him—run to Him.
Bring Him your questions. Bring Him your tears. Bring Him your disappointment and your fears.
He created your heart. He understands every wound you've carried. And while healing often takes time, you can trust that the One who made your heart is also able to restore it.
He is close to the brokenhearted.
