Yesterday we talked about two ways to develop a heart like Jesus. Today, we’re going to look at two more. If you truly want a heart like His, this next one might surprise you.
Not only do we need to care about what Jesus cares about and be indifferent to what Jesus is indifferent to—we also need to get angry about what Jesus gets angry about.
That may sound strange at first. Isn’t anger a sin? Not always.
Unrighteous anger is selfish. It’s the kind that flares up when someone hurts you, inconveniences you, or threatens your comfort.
But righteous anger flows from love.
When you see people suffering while others have far more than they need—that should stir something in you. When you see injustice, poverty, or prejudice—that should move your heart.
Scripture even says, “Be angry without sinning” (Ephesians 4:26 GW).
God is love—but He is also just. And when He sees injustice, His heart burns. If we’re becoming like Jesus, ours should too.
Lastly: Follow Jesus’ Example of Sacrifice
Jesus said it plainly: “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45 NIV).
Here’s the incredible truth: when you shift from living for yourself to living for Jesus and His purposes, your joy increases. God designed us this way. The more generous and unselfish we become, the happier we are.
It really is that simple:
Live for yourself, and you’ll be miserable.
Give your life away, and you’ll be fulfilled.
