El Roi: The God Who Sees Me
God knows you. 100% of you. He knows you better than anyone else in the world. He even knows you better than you know yourself.
He sees what you choose to share with others. He sees what’s hidden. He knows exactly where you are in life, not where you appear to be.
He knows your thoughts. He knows your fears. He knows your hang-ups. He knows your dreams. He knows your greatest memories. He knows what brings you joy. He knows what you’re going through, why you’re going through it, and how you feel about it.
Feeling exposed yet?
Hebrews 4:13 says, “Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight” (NIV). God is never surprised. He knows everything!
The fact that God knows everything about you is good news, not bad. Here’s why:
It would be one thing if God loved you for the person you “presented yourself to be” at church. It would be one thing if God loved the loveable parts of you. But, God KNOWS you, the good, the bad and the ugly, and He STILL LOVES you unconditionally.
The truth is, to be fully known, yet fully loved by your Creator is FREEING.
He’s not shocked by your sin, and when you admit it to him, it will never change the way he feels about you. That means you don’t have to fake it. You don’t have to pretend.
You may think, “Nobody knows what I’m going through. Nobody feels the pain I’m experiencing.” God knows. He’s seen the crisis in your soul. No hurt goes unnoticed by God. Psalm 56:8 says, “You know how troubled I am; you have kept a record of my tears” (GNT).
Because God knows your frustrations and despair, you can give those feelings to him: “Leave all your worries with him, because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7 GNT).
One of the names used for God in the Bible is El Roi, which means “The God Who Sees Me.”
God sees you, even when you feel like no one else truly does, He does. And, even though He sees 100% of you, He loves you.
