Choosing Humility Over Pride
“Pride comes when we look at ourselves, meekness comes through looking at God.” – Billy Graham
Are you the center of your world? A prideful person thinks they have little need for God, believing their way is always best. They live for themselves. This why pride is at the root of almost every other sin, because we think we can ignore God’s ways.
The Bible says, ‘The Lord detests all the proud of heart’ (Proverbs 16:5).
When you’re prideful, the Bible says you’re in opposition to God at that very moment. In fact, you’re operating as an enemy of God anytime you get full of pride. That’s how serious it is.
“'God opposes everyone who is proud, but he is kind to everyone who is humble.’ Surrender to God!” (James 4:6-7 CEV).
I don’t know about you, but I want to be on God’s side. When the valleys of life hit (and they will, because valleys are a part of life here on Earth) I want to be on the Lord’s side. I want the God of Angel Armies to be for me, not against me.
The Bible says, “So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor” (1 Peter 5:6 NLT).
The Lord will lift you up in honor if you will willingly humble yourself before him. That means making him the Lord of your life, not yourself.
Friends, God gives us free will to follow him or not. It's your choice. But, there will be a day where every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that he is Lord. I encourage you to do that now. Choose to do that today. Humble yourself and follow God willingly with your life.
There is no greater way to live your life than for the God who created you and who loves you.
He is certainly worthy and you can trust him with your life. In what areas of your life do you need to surrender to God?
