Breaking Free from the Fears that Box You In

December 5, 2025

What’s holding you back from stepping out in faith and doing what you believe God is calling you to do?

I’ve seen people stay in jobs long after God nudged them toward a new path—simply because the security felt safer than obedience.

I’ve seen fear of being alone keep people in relationships that were never God-honoring.

I’ve watched fear of rejection prevent people from finding the community they desperately needed.

I’ve seen fear of facing the past keep people stuck for years, unwilling to pursue healing or counseling because truth felt too painful.

Now listen, we all experience fear. The danger comes when fear becomes the loudest voice in our lives—louder than God’s calling, louder than His promises, louder than His truth.

Even though fear is universal, it should never be allowed to be in charge.

Fear grows when you feed it.

Every time you choose fear over obedience, it gets stronger.

Every time you refuse to do what God is asking, that fear digs deeper roots.

Eventually, if left unchecked, fear will box you in and corner your life.

But the opposite is just as true: Every step of obedience shrinks fear and strengthens faith.

That’s why, if you want to break fear’s grip, you need to remember the incredible benefit of choosing God’s way—because every act of obedience is a victory over fear.

God often waits for your obedience before He reveals His provision. You may be praying for God to open the door, while He’s waiting for you to walk toward it.

If God has called you to do something, He will equip you, strengthen you, and walk with you every step of the journey. You are never stepping out alone.

He sees what you can’t.

He knows what’s ahead.

He goes before you, behind you, and beside you.

When fear whispers, “You can’t,” God declares, “I am with you.” And His presence is all the confidence you need.

Isaiah 41:10 ESV says, "Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."

So take the step.

Make the call.

Walk into the counseling office.

Leave what He’s asking you to leave.

Start what He’s asking you to start.

Because when God calls you to it, God will carry you through it.
