Getting to Know Jesus Better

February 6, 2026

Philippians 3:10–11 says, “I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised Him from the dead. I want to suffer with Him, sharing in His death, so that one way or another I will experience the resurrection from the dead.”

We have to understand the difference between knowing about someone and truly knowing them.

I know about popular movie stars. But I don’t actually know them.

I do know my wife. I know my kids—because I spend time with them. I have a relationship with them.

Paul says, I want to know Christ. Not just facts about Him. Not just theology. He’s talking about relationship—time spent together, walking with Him, learning His heart.

I love how the Amplified Bible puts Philippians 3:10: “For my determined purpose is that I may know Christ—that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding Him more strongly and more clearly…”

That phrase determined purpose stands out.

The truth is, you don’t get to know Christ by accident. You don’t wake up one morning and suddenly find yourself closer to Jesus. Knowing Him is intentional. It’s a choice. It requires investment.

Your money doesn’t grow just sitting there—you have to invest it. In the same way, your relationship with God won’t grow unless you invest time in it.

If you meet someone with a strong relationship with Jesus, I can guarantee they’ve spent time talking with Him—and letting Him talk to them.

So if deep down we want to know Jesus better, why don’t we?

Busyness. We get busy. And busyness destroys relationships.

It damages connection with your spouse.

It weakens relationships with your kids.

And it slowly erodes your relationship with God.

If you want to know Jesus, you have to make time for Him. You have to decide—before your day fills up—that nothing is going to steal that moment with Him.

You can’t wait for your schedule to “settle down.” If that’s what you’re waiting for, it never will. The enemy will gladly keep you distracted.

Even ten or fifteen focused minutes can make a difference. You already know this from every relationship—just a few intentional moments can change everything.

Morning, afternoon, evening—whatever works for you. But during that time, there’s something important you must do. Psalm 46:10 says: “Be still, and know that I am God.”

Knowing Jesus begins with stillness.

It begins with slowing down long enough to listen.

Not rushing.

Not multitasking.

Just being present with Him.

You have to be still. Some of you, those are terrifying words to you. I know. You’re busy all the time. Be still. The world won’t implode in the minutes that you are spending with your creator. In fact, if we want things in our life to be more at peace, we can’t afford NOT to make time for him.

I encourage you to make 2026 the year that you develop the habit of a daily quiet time if you haven’t already. An investment into a relationship with a God who made you and loves you is the best way you can spend your time.
