God's Free Gift of Grace

May 29, 2025

We often feel like we need to measure up, earn our worth, or somehow perform our way into acceptance in this world. But, this is not how God works.

God loves you , period.

And, because of Jesus, you are acceptable to God, flaws and all. His grace and love for you isn’t based on what you do… it’s based on what he has already done. His grace covers you when you put your trust in Jesus.

Receiving God's Grace: It's a Free Gift

God’s grace is a free gift! But, you actually have to accept it.

How do you receive this amazing gift? You can't earn it or work for it. There's only one way: Admit you need it and you put your trust in Jesus Christ. You accept his gift of grace.

We all have to admit that we can't make it into heaven on our own because heaven is perfect, and we aren’t. To follow Jesus, you come in humility and say, “God, I admit I need your help. I choose to follow Jesus.”

No matter who you are or what you’ve done, you can be saved by God’s grace. You can reach your arms out to your heavenly Father today and accept his grace. You don’t have to do anything to “clean up” before you do this. Just accept his grace.

One of the greatest ways God shows grace is through forgiveness.

Romans 3:22 (TLB): “Now God says he will accept and acquit us . . . if we trust Jesus Christ to take away our sins. And we can all be saved in this same way, by coming to Christ, no matter who we are or what we have been like.”

What if I have already accepted God’s free gift of grace for my salvation?

Well, grace isn't just for the start of your relationship with God; it's essential for every day. God gives us "sustaining grace," which is the grace that gets you through a difficult situation or season. It sustains you. It keeps you from falling apart.

We need God's grace to keep going, daily. God's sustaining grace gives you the power to keep going when you’re troubled. Jesus said we can expect hardship, so we need this grace to get through life.

Isaiah 41:10 offers comfort, reminding us, “Don’t worry, because I am with you. Don’t be afraid, because I am your God. I will make you strong and will help you; I will support you with my right hand that saves you” (NCV).

And, we need God’s grace during our transformation process. Saving grace is just the start. Transforming grace takes a lifetime.

The truth is that God loves us and accepts us where we are. But, he loves us enough to want us to grow and mature and become more like Jesus through a process of transformation.

God promises that "He who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished” (Phil. 1:6).

He won't give up on you. He is working in you. And, you are not alone in this process.

That's what grace is all about. It's God's free gift that forgives us, sustains us, and transforms us.
