“The Lord isn’t slow to do what he promised, as some people think. Rather, he is patient for your sake. He doesn’t want to destroy anyone but wants all people to have an opportunity to turn to him and change the way they think and act.” —2 Peter 3:9 (GW)
When you look at the world today—with all the violence, division, and suffering—it’s easy to wonder: Why does God allow this to go on? He has the power to shut it all down instantly. So why does He let a broken world keep stumbling forward?
Because God is not finished yet. History is His story, and it’s still unfolding.
Peter reminds us that God’s “delay” isn’t slowness—it’s mercy. Every day that passes is another day of grace, another chance for someone to step into God’s family through faith in Jesus. God patiently endures the pain and rebellion He sees in the world because His heart longs for people—all people—to come home to Him. That includes you.
And if you already belong to Him, He’s entrusted you with the mission of sharing His Good News. God’s patience means more time for you to point others toward His love.
Some people object: “I can’t believe in a God who just stands by while children suffer.” But that’s not who God is. One day, He will put a permanent stop to evil and set everything right. Scripture promises that day of justice is coming.
But here’s the hope for believers: you don’t need to fear it. Romans 8:1 says, “There is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus” (NLT). When you stand before God, you won’t stand condemned. You’ll stand covered by His grace—fully forgiven because of the cross.
So yes, the world is broken. Yes, evil is real. But God is still in control. He holds the world—and you—in His hands. And He’s giving us more time: time to turn to Him, time to share His love, time to live with eternity in view.
That’s what we do while we wait for Jesus’ return. Jesus is our hope, and it's our job to tell the world about it.
