How Do You Know Your "Calling?"

September 14, 2023

I hear people ask, all the time, “what is my calling?” This is a

great question to ask! One of my passions as a pastor is helping people

discover and live out their God-given purpose.

But, I think a lot of times we confuse our “calling” with our “career

path” or our “assignment.” We want to know “what degree should I get,

so I can fulfill my calling?” or “has God called me to be a missionary?”

God doesn’t usually reveal your lifelong assignment all at once.

So, how do we discover our calling? One. Day. At. A. Time. Walking with the Lord, connecting with him and following his direction.

Here’s what you should know about your calling that applies to today:

We are ALL called to Jesus. That’s your calling. We are all called into a relationship with God. Pursue that calling,

and he will direct your steps, day by day. He will give you the

specifics as you need them. He often only gives you the “next step.”

“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps.” (Proverbs 16:9, NIV)

The most important calling on your life isn’t to something you do.

Your most important calling isn’t to a role. It’s not to regulations,

rules, or rituals. It’s not even to a religion.

Your first call, above all else, is to a person. A relationship with Christ. Keep chasing that calling, and the details of God's plan for your life will unfold, step by step. Day by day.

Romans 1:7 says, “I am writing to all of you in Rome who are loved by God and are called to be his own holy people” (NLT).

God wants you to be a part of his family.

So, I encourage you to focus on your relationship with God, and he

will not only reveal your unique calling, he also will show you how to

do what he wants you to do.
