Let God be the Source of Your Security

Many people look for security in things that can change— finances, careers, relationships, appearance, talents, health. None of those things are guaranteed. Jobs can be lost. Finances can shift. Relationships can disappoint us. Our health and appearance can change.

When we build our identity on temporary things, insecurity is inevitable.

Genuine security comes from placing your trust in something that can never be taken away: your relationship with God.

The apostle Paul understood this. He had many earthly securities stripped away, yet he could still say, “Christ gives me the strength to face anything” (Philippians 4:13 CEV). Paul’s confidence was rooted in Christ. He knew that even when everything around him changed, God remained faithful.

Maybe you feel insecure because you’ve spent years trying to build your worth on things that were never strong enough to hold it. If so, it’s time to replace those unreliable foundations with the truth of God’s Word.

The Living Bible paraphrases 1 Peter 2:10 this way: “Once you were less than nothing; now you are God’s own.” You belong to God. That truth changes everything.

Our sense of worth is often shaped by what we believe the most important person in our life thinks about us. That’s why true security begins when Jesus becomes the most important person in your life. When his voice matters more than every other voice, you can stop living for the approval of others.

Jesus says you are accepted.

You are valuable.

You are loved.

You are forgiven.

Because of God’s grace, you are capable of carrying out the good plans he has prepared for you—not because you are strong enough on your own, but because his power is at work within you.

So, who are you going to believe?

You can build your identity on the shifting opinions of people, or you can build it on the unchanging truth of God. When you begin to see yourself the way God sees you, you can experience freedom from the pain of insecurity. The opinions of others lose their power when you truly understand that you are God’s own.

Romans 15:13 says, “I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit” (NLT).

God doesn’t want you to live overwhelmed by insecurity. He wants your life to overflow with confident hope.

Your confidence doesn’t have to come from what you possess, what you accomplish, or what others say about you. It comes from knowing whose you are.

In Christ, you are secure.
