Live Today with Eternity in Mind

July 1, 2026

Most people spend their lives focused on what’s happening right now. They're consumed with deadlines, bills, opinions, promotions, possessions, and problems. But the truth is, most of what feels urgent today won’t matter in five days, much less fifty years—and it certainly won’t matter for eternity.

Our perspective changes when we remember just how brief this life really is.

So how do you live in light of eternity? You live each day for God's glory.

The more you know God, the more your priorities begin to change. Your values shift. Your heart becomes less concerned with building your own kingdom and more concerned with building his.

Peter writes, "For as you know him better, he will give you, through his great power, everything you need for living a truly good life: he even shares his own glory and his own goodness with us!" (2 Peter 1:3 TLB).

Notice that God doesn't simply promise you enough strength to survive. He promises everything you need to live a life that honors him. Through his power, he equips you to reflect his goodness, his character, and ultimately, his glory.

You can't control everything that happens in your life. But you always have the power to choose your response.

You can approach life as a cynic, expecting the worst. You can become critical, bitter, fearful, or self-focused. You can spend your life chasing applause, recognition, and your own glory.

Or you can choose another path.

You can live with gratitude even when life is hard. You can respond with generosity instead of selfishness. You can extend grace when it's undeserved because you've received God's grace yourself. You can keep your eyes fixed on eternity instead of being consumed by temporary circumstances.

Which life brings greater joy?

Which life has greater purpose?

Which life leaves an eternal impact?

The answer is obvious.

Jesus said, "Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven" (Matthew 5:16 ESV).

That's why we're here. Our lives are meant to point people to God.

God didn't create you simply to exist for a few decades. He created you because he wants a family. He wants a relationship with you that lasts forever. Through Jesus Christ, he has made it possible for us to spend eternity with him.

That future isn't wishful thinking—it's the believer's confident hope.

When you remember that heaven is your true home, today's struggles become lighter, today's successes become less consuming, and today's opportunities become more meaningful. Every act of love, every choice to obey God, every sacrifice made for his kingdom has eternal significance.

So don't spend your life chasing things that won't last.

Live today with eternity in mind. Let your life reflect God's glory, knowing that one day you'll experience it fully in his presence forever.
