Rest for Your Soul

Date July 12, 2023

"He says, 'Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.'" (Psalm 46:10)

When was the last time you were just "still?" Not still on your couch

watching Netflix, but still and aware of God. Sitting still in his

presence. Being quiet and acknowledging who he is.

I believe that the reason why so many people never feel God's

presence is because they're too busy. They never get still. They're too

distracted. They've always got their radio on. Too much noise.

How do you tune in to His presence? Take little breaks during the day

to be quiet and recognize that no matter where you are, God is with

you. It could be in your office chair. It could be in nature (being in

nature is a great way to connect with God).

Be still. Rest. Stop moving. Stop worrying so much. Stop trying to

fix it all on your own. God wants us to be still and get to know him. He

wants us to rest, but more than just rest. He wants us to rest IN HIM.

in Matthew 11:28 Jesus says “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.”

Even Jesus felt the need to come meet with God daily through prayer. If He felt the need for it we need it too.

Mark 1:35 Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated place to pray.

I encourage you to make a daily appointment with God.

If God is going to be first in our family, in our life,

we need a daily appointment with God. It doesn't matter when we do it.

We just need to do it. It doesn’t have to be a whole hour (it certainly

can be) but daily, ten, fifteen minutes. Get quiet and meet with the

Lord.

I love this last verse. It's words from our Savior, Jesus: (Matthew 11:29-30) "Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

When you meet with the Lord, he will give you rest for your soul. Do you need that right now?
