Still Waters - Part 1

April 9, 2026

Psalm 23:1–2 (NIV) “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters.”

Psalm 23 paints a beautiful picture—but it’s more than scenery. It’s a promise.

Green pastures represent rest.

Quiet waters represent refreshment.

And both are things our souls desperately need.

Life often feels anything but restful. The to-do lists grow longer. Expectations rise. We try to keep everyone happy, navigate complicated relationships, prepare meals, and somehow squeeze a full week of work into just a few days.

Instead of slowing down, we speed up.

Instead of feeling refreshed, we feel exhausted.

Why? Because we’re trying to carry it all in our own strength.

So what would it look like to actually trust the Good Shepherd this week? How do we move from stressed to still… from overwhelmed to refreshed?

I’m going to give are five simple ways to relax in God’s goodness. Today, we will cover just two.

1. Remember your value to God

Everything starts here.

James 1:18 says we are God’s prized possession.

Why does this matter? Because, God doesn’t want what you do for him. He just wants YOU. You already have what God wants… you. The real you. Not, the masked you.

That means your worth is not tied to your performance this week.

Not to how clean your house is.

Not to whether you impress everyone.

Not to how much you get done.

You are already loved.

So even if everything doesn’t go perfectly—you can breathe.

Take the pressure off. You belong to God.

2. Enjoy what you already have

This is the heart of contentment—and it doesn’t come naturally.

By nature, we’re restless, especially here in America. Always reaching for more. But contentment says, “What I have right now is enough.”

Paul writes, “I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation… I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” (Philippians 4:12–13)

And Ecclesiastes reminds us, “It is better to have a little, with peace of mind, than be busy all the time with both hands trying to catch the wind.” (Ecclesiastes 4:6, CEV)

The truth is, the best parts of life aren’t things—they’re people.

No one reaches the end of their life wishing they had worked more. They want relationships. They want connection. They want time.

Let’s not wait until the end of life to learn what matters most.

These two truths should slow us down. Tomorrow, we will continue.
