If today were your last day on earth, are you certain where you would spend eternity?
God doesn't want you to spend your life wondering where you'll spend forever. He wants you to know.
The Bible says, "And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life." 1 John 5:11-12 (NIV)
Notice how clear that is. Eternal life isn't found in religion. It isn't earned by good works, church attendance, generosity, or trying to be a better person. Eternal life is found in one person—Jesus Christ.
If you have the Son, you have life. If you reject the Son, you do not have life. There is no middle ground.
The reality is that none of us are promised tomorrow. We're not even promised our next breath. Every one of us will one day stand before God.
The good news is that God has already done everything necessary to make a relationship with him possible.
At Christmas, God stepped into our world through Jesus Christ. At Easter, Jesus willingly went to the cross, paid the penalty for our sins, died in our place, and rose again three days later, proving that sin and death had been defeated.
Because of Jesus, forgiveness is available. Because of Jesus, your past doesn't have to define your future. Because of Jesus, heaven can become your home.
The Bible says, "You were dead because of your sins... Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross." Colossians 2:13-14 (NLT)
What an incredible picture.
Every sin you've ever committed—every regret, every failure, every shameful moment—was nailed to the cross with Jesus. The debt you could never repay has already been paid in full.
Salvation isn't something you achieve. It's a gift you receive. No one else can make this decision for you. You won't go to heaven because your parents believed. You won't stand before God on the faith of your spouse or your pastor. And you won't be separated from God because of someone else's choices.
God has given you the opportunity to respond to his invitation. Today can be the day everything changes. If you've never trusted Jesus Christ as your Savior, don't wait. Receive the gift he freely offers. Begin the relationship he created you to have. Secure the eternity he died to give you.
Are You Ready to Say Yes to Jesus?
If you're ready to place your trust in Jesus Christ, you can pray something like this:
"Dear Jesus, I know that I have sinned and that I cannot save myself. Thank you for loving me enough to come to earth, die on the cross for my sins, and rise again so that I can have eternal life.
Today I turn from trusting in myself and place my faith in you alone. Please forgive my sins and become the Lord of my life. Help me to follow you, trust you, and live for you each day.
Thank you for your grace, your forgiveness, and the gift of eternal life. I receive that gift today. In your name I pray, Amen."
If you prayed that prayer today, I'd love to celebrate with you. Please email me and let me know.
We'd be honored to encourage you, answer your questions, and help you take your next steps in your new relationship with Jesus.
