Trusting God with Today

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” — Matthew 6:34 (NCV)

How much time do we spend carrying burdens that don't even belong to today?

Jesus gives us a simple but life-changing instruction: don't worry about tomorrow. Why? Because tomorrow isn't ours to carry. God has given us enough grace for today, and when tomorrow comes, He will provide what we need then too.

There are two days we can never change: yesterday and tomorrow.

Yesterday is behind us. We can learn from it, but we can't relive it. Tomorrow hasn't arrived yet, so worrying about it only steals the peace and joy God has given us today.

Living one day at a time isn't about ignoring the future—it's about trusting God with it.

When we focus on tomorrow's problems, we often miss today's blessings. We also try to fight battles with strength that God hasn't promised us yet. His grace is given daily. When tomorrow arrives, so will the wisdom, strength, perspective, and peace we need.

As children, many of us never questioned how our needs would be met. If we needed food, clothes, or comfort, we simply went to our parents. We trusted them to take care of us without worrying about where the provision would come from.

Our Heavenly Father invites us to have that same childlike trust in Him.

Jesus reminds us in Matthew 6:30 that if God so beautifully clothes the wildflowers, surely He will care for His children. If He faithfully provides for His creation, how much more will He provide for you?

Worry often reveals that we're carrying responsibilities God never asked us to carry. It quietly says, "Everything depends on me." But God never intended for us to live under that weight. Instead, He invites us to trust Him.

That's why Jesus taught us to pray, "Give us this day our daily bread" (Matthew 6:11). Not weekly bread. Not monthly bread. Daily bread. God's provision is daily because He desires daily dependence. Each morning is another opportunity to place our lives, our families, our finances, our health, and our future into His capable hands.

Planning for tomorrow is wise. Worrying about tomorrow is not.

So today, release what you cannot control. Trust the One who already holds tomorrow. His grace is sufficient for today, and when tomorrow comes, His grace will meet you there too.
