What Are You Feeding Your Mind?

Sept 25, 2026

“Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” Philippians 4:8 (NLT)

Every day, your mind is being pulled in a hundred different directions.

You scroll through social media and see what everyone else has, how everyone else looks, and what everyone else is doing. You watch the news and hear about everything going wrong in the world. You hear advertisements telling you what you need to buy, how you need to look, and what you need to have to be happy.

And then there’s the voice inside your own head reminding you of everything you’re not. It can be difficult to stay focused on what is true.

That’s why Paul tells us to fix our thoughts on things that are true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and worthy of praise. In other words, we have to be intentional about what we allow to occupy our minds.

This requires a mental shift. It means building new and better habits.

The world is full of lies:

You’re not good enough.

You should worry about this.

You need to look a certain way.

You need more money, more success, or more followers to be valuable.

You may have heard some of those lies so often that you’ve started believing them. But they’re still lies.

And when we fill our minds with lies, it affects more than just the way we think. It can rob us of our peace, create anxiety and stress, and keep us from seeing ourselves and our circumstances the way God does.

So how do you fight the lies? You fill your mind with truth.

Jesus said, “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32 NIV).

The truth is that God loves you. You matter to him. Your worth isn't determined by your appearance, your accomplishments, your failures, your bank account, or someone else's opinion of you.

And one of the most powerful places to find that truth is in God’s Word.

The Bible reminds us who God is, what he has done, what he promises, and who we are because of him. When you consistently fill your mind with God’s truth, you begin to recognize the lies for what they are.

Think about what you’re already putting into your mind every day. How much time do you spend scrolling? Watching TV? Listening to the news? Reading comments? Comparing your life to someone else's? Now ask yourself: What am I giving my mind more of—truth or noise?

If you’re constantly filling your mind with the messages of the world, you shouldn’t be surprised when your mind feels restless. But when you intentionally make room for God’s Word, something begins to change.

What happens when you keep your mind on true things?

The Living Bible paraphrase says, “If you do this, you will experience God's peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will keep your thoughts and your hearts quiet and at rest as you trust in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:7).

Wouldn't you like to have your heart and your mind at rest? That's a breakthrough everyone needs: less stress and more rest. Get started on your breakthrough today by getting into God’s Word.
