When You Have a Need, Plant a Seed

October 15, 2025

Whatever you sow in life, you’re going to reap. This isn’t just a saying, it’s how God designed the world to work. It’s called the law of the harvest. Whatever you plant, you’re going to get, often in greater measure.

When you plant apple seeds, you don’t get pears—you get apples. In the same way, when you sow generosity, you’ll reap generosity.

The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 9:6–7 (NIV), “Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

This is the principle of the harvest: whenever you have a need, plant a seed.

Some people have needs and they look around and say, “I can’t afford to be generous right now.” But, that’s actually when we SHOULD be generous. God is going to bless that.

Take a look at it this way… a farmer who looks at barren fields doesn’t sit around complaining or worrying that he doesn’t have any crops; he gets to work planting. If he has only a handful of seed, he faces a choice—hoard it and watch it disappear, or give it away and trust God to multiply it.

That’s exactly how God’s economy works. You don’t just reap what you sow—you always reap more than you sow!

God designed life this way because he wants you to become more like him. God is a generous giver. Every time you give, share, or serve, you reflect his character.

It may seem illogical to give when you have a need—but that’s where faith comes in. God’s way of increase is through release. The more you trust him and let go, the more room you make for his blessings to flow into your life.

So, the next time you face a need, don’t hold back—plant a seed and watch God bring the harvest.

What is a need in your life right now? What might God want you to give away in faith while you wait for his provision?
