When a person accepts Jesus as their Lord and Savior, they begin what’s called the sanctification process.
Sanctification is just a big word for becoming holy, or set apart.
It’s a transformation process to becoming like Jesus, in our character,
in our actions and in our thinking.
Although no one can be perfect like Jesus, the Holy Spirit can help
us glorify God in our lives. The Holy Spirit helps us live holy, or set
apart.
“As the Spirit of the Lord works within us, we become more and more like him.” 2 Corinthians 3:18 (TLB)
“God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.” Philippians 2:13 (NLT)
It’s the Holy Spirit’s job to produce Christlike character in you.
But what role do you play in the transformation process? You
cooperate with the Holy Spirit. You let him lead you. You say yes in
advance. You obey.
The Holy Spirit does the transforming, but you do have a
role to play. God doesn't force heart change. You can spend your life
resisting the Holy Spirit or cooperating with him.
Choose to do the right thing; then trust God’s Spirit to give you the
power to do it. He will give you the love, faith, and wisdom to follow
through.
Since God’s Spirit lives inside you, these things are always available for the asking.
